  Panelists

  • Travis Johnson, president of Microserv Computer Techhnologies, started his career as a Novell ECNE and worked on many large networks in Salt Lake City, UT.  He then moved back to Idaho and began in the ISP business in 1997.  After recognizing the need for high-speed service where none was available, he began installing wireless service for businesses in his region.  Starting with Lucent Wavelan 900 MHz products, he now has over 2,000 wireless subscribers using 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.3 GHz and 5.8 GHz.  His network now reaches over 10,000 square miles and is 99% wireless.

  • John Van Oppen is Technical Operations Manager at PocketiNet and has been working with networks for almost as long as he has had access to computers.  He got his start in the mid and late 90s, doing consulting work while in middle and high school and quickly moving up to larger networks.  John joined PocketiNet in 2002 while working towards a BA degree in Political Science and today runs a network of about 1,500 wireless customers ranging from 768k to full DS3s that is built on a combination of leased fiber and broadband wireless links connecting to two gigE IP transit feeds in the company's main Seattle POP.
