WiNOG sessions drastically differ from the
traditional listen and learn format popular at most
tradeshows today. WiNOG sessions do not have
"speakers" per say, rather, qualified moderators
are
chosen and given a small amount of time (typically 5-10
minutes), to "jump-start" the session with a particular
position or solution. Thereafter, the session will
be turned over to the audience to talk and debate the
topic further.
Symposium sessions are organized in the
following manner:
A general topic of discussion would be chosen in
advance (e.g., WiMAX, WISPA, WISP
Financials/Mergers/Acquisitions, VoIP)
Each session is allotted approximately 90 minutes
of time
Several Panelists are, based upon submitted
position papers and qualifications, are chosen to
"stimulate" the discussion.
The first 15 minutes of each sessions are devote
to the panelists.
After the panelists finish, the debate opens up to
the floor - audience members get their chance to ask
questions / make a statement / provide answers / etc -
a pre-appointed moderator ensures that discussion and
debate continues in a smooth and lively manner.
