WiNOG, the Network Operators Group, is a forum for the exchange of technical information and discussion of specific implementation issues that organizations involved in the design, deployment and operation of networks face on a daily basis.

This forum is dedicated to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between these organizations. WiNOG discussions are "germane" if they're of interest to people running large-scale networks interconnected with other networks.  "Network Operations" in this context means issues related to entire networks, rather than end users.

In the past year, WiMAX technology has gained newfound interest in the United States due to the release by the FCC of quasi-licensed high-power fixed wireless spectrum in the 3.65 GHz band.

The WiMAX World 2008 Conference and Expo is the world's largest wireless and mobile broadband event focusing solely on WiMAX.  Over 8,500 attendees and 180+ exhibitors participated in 2007.  WiMAX World, focused on Sprint, ClearWire and the 802.16e standard, does not cater to the small-to-medium operator's interests in 802.16d and the 3.65 GHz band.

WiNOG is producing a targeted 2-day WiMAX World "pre-show" seminar that will focus on the specific issues that fixed wireless operators looking to deploy 802.16d technology in the 3.65 GHz band face.  Attendees of WiNOG will get focused discussions pertaining to their specific needs coupled with the ability to browse the WiMAX Industry's largest exhibit hall.
